Pitch deck analytics
Pitch deck analytics and tracking: see what investors do with your deck
Pitch deck analytics show who opened your deck, time per slide, how far they got and return visits. How deck tracking works on Pitchroom, step by step.
What is pitch deck analytics?
Pitch deck analytics is the data a deck-sharing tool records when an investor opens a tracked link: who opened it, how long they spent on each slide, how far they got, and whether they came back.
When you email a deck as an attachment, you learn nothing after you press send. Did the partner open it? Did they stop at slide three? Did they forward it to a colleague? You cannot see any of it, so you follow up on instinct and on timing you cannot observe.
Tracking changes that. Instead of the file, you send a link. The deck opens in the browser, and every page view is recorded against that link and, when you invite by email, against a named viewer.
Pitch deck tracking is the practice of sharing a deck as a tracked link rather than a file, so that opens, time per slide and return visits can be measured for each viewer.
Pitchroom is a fundraising platform built and hosted in the EU that does this as one part of a wider workflow: you upload, get an automatic review, set your sharing controls, and read the analytics next to the investor they belong to. This guide walks through each step.
Why track pitch deck views at all?
A deck is the most important document in your raise, and most of its life happens after you send it. Tracking gives you four things that an attachment never will.
- Timing your follow-up. An investor who opened the deck twice yesterday is warm today. One who has not opened it in two weeks needs a different message, or none at all.
- Knowing which slides raise questions. A long pause on the financials and a quick skim of the team slide tells you what the first call will be about before it happens.
- Spotting internal circulation. Return visits on a link you sent to one person usually mean the deck is being passed around a partnership. That is a good sign, and a reason to prepare for a wider conversation.
- Cleaning up your pipeline. Investors who never open the deck are not in play. Analytics let you stop guessing and move them out of the active list.
None of this requires a statistician. It requires the signals to exist, and a place where they sit next to the investor and the round they belong to.
How pitch deck tracking works on Pitchroom, step by step
From a file on your laptop to a live view of investor engagement, the flow has four steps. The first two happen once per deck. The last two happen for every investor you share with.
Step 1: Upload your deck
Drop in a PDF or a PowerPoint file. Pitchroom processes it into clean, fast-loading pages automatically, so an investor on a phone never waits for a large attachment to download. Video pitches work the same way on the Startup plan and above.
From upload to a live link takes under a minute. The original file stays yours; investors see the processed pages in their browser. Read more on the pitch deck sharing page.
Step 2: Get an automatic review before you share
As soon as the deck is processed, Pitchroom scores it against what investors expect at your stage and lists the gaps. A pre-seed deck is measured against pre-seed expectations, not against a Series B memo. You get a plain list of what is missing or weak, so you fix it before the first investor sees it rather than after the first pass.
The review is assistive. It scores and suggests, you decide what to change and nothing is sent on your behalf. It runs on Anthropic's Claude models, and your deck is never used to train AI models. The same approach applies across every AI feature in Pitchroom.
Step 3: Set your controls and share a tracked link
Every deck gets a short link, in the form pitchroom.net/d/seed-v3-x29f. Before you send it, you choose six controls per deck:
- Online toggle. Turn the link on or off at any time, instantly.
- Email gate. Require viewers to identify themselves before the deck opens.
- Password protection. Lock the deck behind a passcode you share separately.
- Dynamic watermark.Stamp each page with the viewer's details to discourage forwarding. Startup plan and above.
- Download on or off. Keep the deck strictly view-only, or allow the file to be saved. Off by default.
- Call to action. End the deck with a built-in next step, such as booking a call. Startup plan and above.
Then share. Paste the link into an email or a form, or invite viewers by email from inside Pitchroom so each open is tied to a name you recognise.
Step 4: Track engagement and act on it
Once the link is out, four signals are recorded for every viewer:
- Who viewed it. Each visit tied to a named viewer when you invite by email or use the email gate.
- Time per slide. What held attention and what was skipped.
- How far they got. How deep into the deck they read, and whether they finished.
- Return visits. When a deck is being re-read or shared internally.
On the Startup plan and above, real-time notifications tell you the moment a deck is opened. The engagement does not sit in a separate dashboard: it flows into your investor pipeline, where it feeds a Funding Chance score for each investor and sets the order of your follow-ups inside the fundraising round.
How do I see who viewed my pitch deck?
There are two ways to attach a name to a view. The first is to invite the investor by email from Pitchroom, so every open of that link is attributed to that person. The second is to switch on the email gate, so anyone who opens the link must enter an email address before the deck loads.
Use the invite for warm introductions and named partners. Use the email gate when the link travels somewhere you do not control, such as a cold email, an application form or a forwarded message. Without either, a public link still records opens, time per slide and return visits, but the viewer is shown as anonymous.
Downloads are off by default
A tracked link only tells you what happens inside the viewer. Once a file is downloaded you lose that visibility, which is why Pitchroom keeps downloads off unless you enable them for a specific deck, and lets you add a dynamic watermark when you do.
What should you look at in pitch deck analytics?
The four signals are simple on their own. The value is in reading them together, per investor, and deciding what to do next.
- Time per slide shows where attention went. Long time on a slide means interest or confusion. The follow-up email is where you find out which, so lead with that topic.
- The drop-off point is the slide where a viewer left. If several investors leave at the same slide, the problem is the slide, not the investors.
- Completion separates a skim from a read. A viewer who reached the ask slide has the full picture and can be asked a direct question.
- Return visits mark the decks being discussed. A second or third open, especially from a viewer you did not invite, means the deck has been passed on.
None of these numbers decide anything for you. They tell you which investors to call first, and what to say when they answer.

Pitch deck analytics vs DocSend
DocSend is the tool most founders think of for deck tracking, and on the core analytics the two are close. Both show who opened the deck, how far they got, time per page and return visits, with live open alerts. The difference is what surrounds the analytics. Pitchroom feeds them into an investor pipeline with a database, a fundraising CRM and data rooms. DocSend stops at the document.
DocSend has things Pitchroom does not, including e-signatures and a deeper Dropbox integration. We build Pitchroom, so weigh our view accordingly and read the feature-by-feature comparison before you choose.
What does pitch deck tracking cost?

Frequently asked questions
Can I see who viewed my pitch deck?
Yes. Invite viewers by email, or switch on the email gate, and every open is tied to a name. Opens of a public link without a gate are recorded as anonymous views, with time per slide and return visits still tracked.
Can I stop sharing a deck after I send it?
Yes. Every deck has an online toggle, so you can take the link offline instantly and bring it back later. You can also add a password or an email gate to a link that is already out.
Does pitch deck tracking work with PDF and PowerPoint?
Yes. Pitchroom accepts PDF and PowerPoint decks and processes them into fast-loading web pages, so tracking works the same whichever format you upload. Video pitches are tracked the same way on the Startup plan and above.
Can I stop investors downloading my deck?
Yes. Downloads are off by default. You can enable them per deck, and apply a dynamic watermark with the viewer’s details when you do.
Is pitch deck tracking free on Pitchroom?
Yes. The Free plan costs €0 with no credit card, no trial and no expiry, and includes pitch deck sharing with open and engagement tracking. Advanced analytics, real-time notifications and dynamic watermarking are on the Startup plan at €25 per month, or €20 per month billed annually.
Is my deck used to train AI when I use the review?
No. Pitchroom’s AI features run on Anthropic’s Claude models, and your deck, data room and investor pipeline are never used to train AI models. The review scores and suggests; you decide what to change.
